a network of service and caring in our communities!

Minnesota Valley Health Center Auxiliary
MN Valley Health Center 621 S. 4th Street

The MVHC Auxiliary exists because of the work of many vounteers who give of their time, talent and money to improve the lives of patients and staff at the Minnesota Valley Health Center in Le Sueur, Minnesota.
The MVHC Auxiliary was founded in 1959 by 37 Le Sueur women who were dedicated to to the goal of meeting the health care needs of the community.  Since then, the Auxiliary has worked to meet these needs helping to provide programs, services and fundraising.

Raising funds for a purpose...

A major function of the MVHC Auxiliary is to raise the funds needed to buy equipment and furnishings for the hospital and nursing home.  We have raised over $200,000 since our founding.  Most Recently, wheelchair accessible doors were installed in the nursing home and Emergency Room entrance / exit.  The the hospital/nursing home snack bar was also remodeled. Each year, the Auxiliary provides a $500 scholarship to a student from Le Sueur or Henderson who plans to start a career in health care.

The always popular Pie Shoppe

MVHC Auxiliary volunteers work at the annual PIE SHOPPE FUNDRAISER. Everyone in the community looks forward to the delicious homemade pies sold there! Last year, 125 home-made pies and cakes were served during the 2-day event. The PIE SHOPPE FUNDRAISER takes place each year during the Retail & Business Expo held in April at the Le Sueur Community Center

Gardenview Nursing Home, along with the community hospital and emergency room strives to provide quality health care to area residents.

The hospital/nursing home snack bar was recently remodeled using funds raised by the MVHC Auxiliary. This project was a nice improvement to this area of the facility.

Service to those in need...

Three times each year, the MVHC Auxiliary sponsors a local blood drive staffed by Auxiliary members. Our volunteers call potential donors, set up appointments and then assist during the day of the blood drive.

The Meals on Wheels program is made possible locally by the MVHC Auxiliary. About 100 volunteers and 28 substitutes participate; they go out rain or shine to deliver meals to those who are physically unable to get adequate nutrition on their own. Food is delivered monday-friday except when the weather is so bad that schools are closed. Pastors, doctors, friends, nurses, or hospital discharge planners can all recommend individuals for Meals on Wheels assistance (if you need this service, you can also call and make a request yourself).   Special diets are available for those with specific nutritional or dietary needs.

Each year, the MVHC Auxiliary sells "Christmas Memory Lights".  For $3.00, community members can purchase a light on the beautiful tree that stands in front of the nursing home. Each light is in remembrance of someone special. There is a list on the wall inside the nursing home that shows who donated each light and who each light commemorates.

One very important function of the MVHC Auxillary is to help provide a rich and caring social envrionment for residents in Gardenview Nursing Home.  The Auxiliary sponsors and members assist with special activities at the nursing home. Volunteers help to plan and provide monthly birthday parties for residents, a fall festival, a monthly "fried egg friday" for residents, bingo parties, and much more.  Our volunteers also offer the simple, but invaluable, gift of one-to-one contact with residents

Living History...

Scrapbooks have been kept by some of our members in order to lovingly preserve the memories of those individuals who have both served or been served by the Auxiliary.  These wonderful documents are on display on the second floor of the Le Sueur Museum (709 North 2nd Street). Work has begun on the current latest edition (17th) in this scrapbook series and everyone is welcome to come and view them.

Help US Help Others...
The MVHC is always seeking volunteers to help with our mission!  The gift of a person's time is very valuable.  If you don't have the time to spare, you can still help by making a donation.
